  Marie A. Sutton is an award-winning freelance writer with a passion for immortalizing the African American experience. The Stillman College alumna has worked as a journalist, communications professional, radio talk show host and blogger.
 
Marie will be speaking about her research on this historical and Civil Rights landmark in celebration of Black History Month. Copies of her book will be available at the meeting.
She is currently the director of student media at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She lives in Birmingham with her devoted husband, James, and two beautiful children, Simone and Stephen. 
 

In celebration of Black History Month and Birmingham’s role in the Civil Rights Movement, Authors Marie Sutton – The A.G. Gaston Motel in Birmingham and Teresa T.K. Thorne – Last Chance for Justice, will be joined by Kwani Carson, Mayor’s Liaison to Community Development, City of Birmingham to discuss the rich history of our downtown monuments and the upcoming plans to celebrate and honor them in Birmingham’s Freedom Center.
