Facilitated panel discussing

Sustainability - how it affects us all

What is Sustainability? Why should we care? What are UAB and the city of Birmingham doing about it?

What can you do about it?

Natalie Kelly, President  & CEO, Sustain

As a long-time proponent of green living and an advocate for sustainability initiatives, Natalie has dedicated her career to helping transform the way communities and businesses seek and achieve progress. As the founder and CEO of Sustain, Natalie has coupled her passion for the environment, social progress, and innovation with her expertise in marketing and management. Sustain helps communities and organizations identify opportunities to champion sustainability, activate their strategy, and then tell their stories. Just one of her many clients that takes her across the country is the Toyota Green Initiative Coalition that promotes sustainability on historically black college campuses.

Dr. Julie G. Price, Coordinator of Sustainability, UAB

As the largest single employer in Alabama with an annual economic impact exceeding $5 billion, UAB strives to be a good steward of its resources and to make the campus and environment more sustainable. In the past several years UAB has opened a comprehensive campus recycling center, implemented a successful energy conservation plan and developed a campus-wide committee that focuses on conservation and sustainability. And UAB students can now apply for a new funding opportunity for projects related to sustainability on campus. Julie is the UAB Coordinator of Sustainability and Instructor for a sustainability course addressing the influence of human population on Earth’s environment.
