Breast Cancer – A Personal Journey

& The Women’s Breast Health Fund

October is breast cancer awareness month.  We’re delighted to have Madeline, an oncology nurse specialized in breast cancer care join us to share her very personal story about breast cancer including her reaction to her young daughter’s diagnosis.

Madeline Harris became Director of the Women’s Breast Health Fund of the Community Foundation in 2012, after serving for two years as volunteer chair of the Advisory Committee for this field of interest fund. She works on strategies within the Result that states: People can lead healthy lives.

A graduate of the UAB School of Nursing with a BSN and MSN, she has worked in bedside nursing and oncology nursing management positions, serving as Director of Patient Care at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center and co-founding the Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Clinic. Her work as a nurse and as a volunteer has been honored by the American Cancer Society and she was inducted into the Alabama HealthCare Hall of Fame in 2010.
